by Brian Woodman Jr. on 08/25/20

(Aug. 21 - Uncasville, CT)

Two Connecticut-based fighters recently competed in Bellator's latest event, which Mohegan Sun Arena hosted.

Julia Budd (14-3)earned a win by unanimous decision over Jessy Miele (9-4), who fights out of Waterbury, during the co-main event. Two judges scored the featherweight bout 30-27 and one scored it 30-26. The fight eventually went to the ground during all three rounds with Budd assuming a dominant position.

Lucas Brennan (3-0) punched his way to a TKO victory over West Haven's Will Smith at 4:14 in the second round of a featherweight bout that opened the preliminary card. Brennan took down Smith during both rounds and attempted ground and pound -- it paid off during the second round as the referee waved the fight as Brennan threw punches from a mounted position.

During the main event, Vadim Nemkov (12-2) won by TKO during his light heavyweight bout with Ryan Bader (27-6). The fight ended at 3:03 in the second round after Nemkov landed a right side kick to Bader's head and pounced on him to throw punches.

Valentin Moldavsky (10-1) defeated Roy Nelson (23-10) by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the heavyweight bout 30-27. Nelson ate elbows, punches and at least one high knee to the face as he attempted to exchange strikes with Moldavsky.

The main card opened with a middleweight bout between John Salter (18-4) and Andrew Kapel (15-7). Salter submitted Kapel by arm triangle at 3:11 in the third round and appeared dominant throughout the fight. He got bully mounts during the second and third round.

Yaroslav Amosov (24-0) earned a TKO victory over Mark Lemminger (11-2) during the last fight on the preliminary card. A cut over Lemminger's eye apparently prompted a ringside doctor to end the 175-pound contractweight bout after the first round.

Sidney Outlaw (15-4) earned a split decision win over Adam Piccolotti (12-4) during the previous fight. Both fighters shifted between dominant positions on the ground throughout the lightweight bout and tried to take each other's backs a few times. All three judges scored it 29-28 with one ruling in favor of Piccolotti.

Joshua Hill (20-3) earned an unanimous decision win over Erik Perez (19-8). Hill attempted to shoot for Perez's legs during the bantamweight bout but the latter sprawled out of it. The fight eventually went to the ground -- Hill attempted a rear naked choke and a leg triangle during the third round.  Two judges scored the bout 30-27 and a third scored it 29-28.

Weber Almeida (4-0) knocked out fellow featherweight Salim Mukhidinov (7-5) at 3:57 in the first round with a ground-and-pound attack after he knocked his opponent down with a right hook. Mukhidinov, although dazed, appeared to be trying to get up as the referee waved the fight off.

John De Jesus (13-8) earned an unanimous decision win over Vladyslav Parubchenko (16-2). Parubchenko grabbed De Jesus's waist a few times during the 150-pound contract weight bout and threw him during the second round. De Jesus landed a a high flying knee during the second round and atempted a Muay Thai plum during the third. Two judges scored the bout 29-28 and one scored it 30-27.

Chris Gonzalez (5-0) earned a split decision win over Vladmir Tokov (7-1) during a back-and-forth affair in which the former attempted a few guillotine chokes while the latter attempted several leg takedowns. Two judges scored the lightweight 29-28 and 30-27 in favor of Gonzalez. One scored it 29-28 in favor of Tokov.
