Jarrid Heon of CT to make MMA debut at AFO Summer Brawl on June 29
By Brian Woodman Jr.

Twenty-six-year-old Jarrid Heon of Moosup, who competes with the Glastonbury-based AMMO Fight League, will make his professional MMA debut at AFO Summer Brawl VI in Boxborough, Massachusetts on June 29. His opponent is still being determined as of press time.
AMMO, which began last year, offers mixed grappling events for competitors with or without gis (the tops worn by martial artists in certain disciplines) in separate bouts.
"It's my last 155 (pound bout) ever," said Heon, who trains with Team Strikezone out of New London and Team Link out of Jewett City. It's a tough cut, but we'll see."
He did not compete in AMMO's most recent event because it was too close to the AFO fight date. He has earned four championship belts with AMMO during three of their events last year, according to information from the organization.
Heon, who is currently working toward his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, earned a welterweight belt in the no-gi competition during AMMO's first event. He won a lightweight belt in the gi competition and a light heavyweight belt in the no-gi competition during their second event. During the fourth AMMO event, he became middleweight champion in the gi competition.
He fought Tom Venticinque to a draw at an AFO event during an amateur event on April 27. Heon also trains in wrestling, boxing and kickboxing.
"I was just talking with a friend about how that was my toughest fight ever," he said. "I was trying to work wrestling during the first and second rounds, and his takedown defense was very good. And by the third I knew I was losing so I went back to my first instinct, which is striking, which worked good because I almost finished the fight. But from the first two rounds I didn't have the energy to finish him. I agree to it being a draw, and I learned a lot. And Tommy is a tough guy!"
